Where is home?
This question has often crossed our minds as a bi-cultural couple living in various countries during our twenties.
In our recent move from Taipei to Utrecht, we rediscovered our passion for drawing and crafts. Our art naturally blended our deep love for Taiwanese culture with our new appreciation for European culture.
As we connected with friends who share our experience of navigating multiple cultures, we felt inspired to share our art more widely. Thus, Sao Machine was born.
Sao comes from the Chinese 騷(Sāo), with translations ranging from coquettish to slutty. Our favorite interpretation? Seductive.
Seduction comes in many ways. For us, this means celebrating our native cultures alongside those that have shaped us through experiences and relationships. We combine traditional Chinese culture and international pop references, while blending elements from our daily lives.
Ultimately, we hope Sao Machine reflects who we are and what we love, bridging our European and Taiwanese roots.
Sao Machine is a personal project to us, so we enjoy keeping as much activity in-house as possible.
We strive to make art and try to put it out there all while respecting the planet.
